Our test centre combines an extensive range of drying technologies with 90 years of Mitchell’s drying experience. Each test allows us to gather and analyse essential data and monitor material behaviour through variable process parameters. This enables our engineers to size and design bespoke equipment to meet every customer requirement.
Intellectual property is of the highest importance and we maintain our customers’ confidentiality every step of the way. We have a process laboratory which is used for moisture, loss on ignition (LOI) particle size analysis and can also be used by customers for their own analysis when appropriate.
Our Test Centre holds an extensive archive of test data on well over 3000 different materials and our engineers have many years of experience in dryer design as well as running tests and processes. Every material has unique challenges and this knowledge is regularly applied to provide tailored solutions.

Drying and calcination tests are performed on a batch or continuous basis with direct or indirect heating. In addition, we also have an extensive range of vacuum drying systems.
Feed & Product Handling
Various ancillary processing options are available on site such as extruders, twin-shaft mixers, granulators and mills. We also have relationships with other OEMs which allows us to bring equipment on site and provide turnkey drying solutions including high shear mixing, powder milling and blending. Refrigerated storage is available for perishable materials as required.
Emission Control & Monitoring
Bag filters, cyclones and wet scrubbing are available on site to collect dust and dry product in various configurations. We can also use externally sourced emissions monitoring systems to gather data during tests with test points located throughout the exhaust system.
On site testing
Where materials are age sensitive, many of our test machines can be transported to customers’ sites to carry out tests on fresh feed material.
